What is a gyroscope?
First proposed in 1948, the gyro is an electronic network that served as a replacement for its older inductor predecessor and could serve as the heart of equalizer design. While inductors remain popular with some designers seeking a vintage sound, they have inherent issues such as ringing and unusual harmonics. On the other hand, gyro can perform better than the "real thing" and give designers more freedom, a factor that comes into play in the VSE-2, which, among other things, creates a tube-like distortion spectrum.
