New features and updates in 12
Freedom to express creativity
MIDI conversion
Create simple or complex variations of your MIDI clips: add ornaments and articulations, draw acceleration and deceleration curves, connect consecutive notes and chords, or simulate guitar strumming.
Generator
Create melodies, chords, and rhythms with the new MIDI generators. Provide custom constraints for the generator of your choice, watch it create interesting and original patterns, then make the ideas it generates your own.
Max for Live MIDI Tools
Max now supports richer experimental features, allowing you to create new MIDI transformations and generators – either based on existing ones or your own creations.
edit
Improved ordering of selected notes by pitch, velocity, or duration. Stretch, split, chop, or connect notes in new ways; adjust their velocity; transpose them across the scale; or add intervals chromatically or tonally.
Harmonic scale
Set the scale of a selected clip in Live's control bar to see its notes in any clip you create. Then use the scale highlighting as a guide to edit clips, use clip scale for transitions and musical inspiration, or sync the scale of MIDI devices and instruments to the playing clip. Any changes in Live will be reflected in Push, and vice versa.
Expansion Probability
Assign a single probability rule to a group of notes so that the entire group plays whenever a trigger is triggered. Or select a chord and tell Live to play a random note within it whenever a probabilistic trigger is triggered.
Master and explore tuning methods,
Adhere to your preferred tuning system, or experiment with different tunings more easily. Create outside the equal temperament system and tune with Live's devices and any MPE-enabled plug-in.
Surprise yourself with the sounds you create. Meld

A two-timbral, MPE-enabled instrument designed for deep sound shaping, its two easy-to-use macro oscillators let you create a wide variety of textural and experimental sounds. Granulator

The latest version of Robert Henke's granular instrument now features MPE, giving you expressive control over parameters like note bending, vibrato, and portamento. Plus, you can now capture audio in real time and start processing immediately. Roar uses Live's new Color and Saturation effects to create everything from subtle and precise mastering-grade warmth to wild and unpredictable decays.
of
Everything. Roar's three saturation stages can be used in series, parallel, or even in mid/side and multiband configurations—and it comes equipped with a feedback generator and an extensive modulation matrix.
New modulation behavior
The modulation target is no longer taken over by the modulation source. This means that even after assigning an LFO or other modulation source to it, you can still adjust the parameter being modulated, opening up faster workflows, more performance possibilities, and continuous real-time control over parameters.

Lost and Found Sound Pack – A collection of sounds crafted from unique textures, percussive trinkets, distinctive foley recordings, and expressive artifacts to inject personality and authenticity into your productions. Dig deep to create richly layered ornaments, expressive instrument sounds, playful drum racks, and lush sound effects.
Pack – A set of innovative gear from Iftah that pushes the boundaries of live performance. You can capture snapshots of your gear and deploy them later, control multiple parameters with layered macros and curves, extend your performances with loops in Arrangement View, and pre-structure your performances before recording.

Stacked detail view allows you to
View the Device and Clip Editor, or Automation and Device Parameters, so you can avoid the distraction of switching between views while you work.
View Style
Live 12's cleaner, more minimalist look removes visual complexity, letting you focus on the music.
Mixer in view
Live's Mixer, previously available only in Session view, is now available in Arrangement view. Toggle it on or off using the Mixer View Control in the lower right corner or via the View menu, and configure it independently of the Arrangement Mixer.
improve
Live's Mixer has also received visual improvements, making it more accurate for making detailed mixing decisions and easier to read and control.
Browser tagging and filtering searches
Search for sounds in the browser without being restricted to Live's built-in categories. This means that when you search for bass, you'll see all basses in your Ableton library, whether they're samples or instrument presets.
Live 12's sound content is also tagged using a new system, which can serve as a more flexible alternative or supplement to the Collections section in the sidebar. Sounds now come with sensible tags, making them easier to find – but if you need more detail, or simply want to use your own tagging method, you can also add your own tags.
In addition to Live 12's built-in tags, you can create your own custom categories in the sidebar to easily access all your favorite sounds and devices in the way that best suits your workflow.
Sound Similarity Search
Start with a sample and tell Live's browser to find comparable sounds and instrument presets with the help of neural networks.
Or swap out all the samples in a Drum Rack with similar ones to quickly try out new percussive textures – like a drum machine with seemingly infinite kits.
Browser History
RECORD RETREAT YOUR STEPS and view and listen to sounds or categories you've previously searched for: Live's browser now lets you retrace your search history, just like a web browser.
Accessibility and navigation improvements
Use assistive technologies like screen readers to control core workflows in Live 12, and navigate to nearly every part of Live using new keyboard shortcuts.
New Theme
Choose a new theme and tweak it with cool, neutral, or warm tones or even high contrast mode.
