Ableton Live is a fast, fluid, and flexible software music sequencer and digital audio workstation for music creation and performance. It comes with effects, instruments, sounds, and a variety of creative features - everything you need to make any type of music.

Create in traditional linear arrangements, or improvise without the constraints of the timeline in Live's Session View. Move freely between musical elements and play around with ideas without stopping the music or disrupting your flow.

→ All new features and updates in Live 12:

MIDI conversion
Create simple or complex variations of your MIDI clips: add ornaments and articulations, draw acceleration and deceleration curves, connect consecutive notes and chords, or simulate guitar strumming.

MIDI Generator
Conjure melodies, chords, and rhythms with the new MIDI generators. Give your chosen generator custom constraints, watch it create interesting and original patterns, then make the ideas it generates your own.

Max for Live MIDI Tools
Max now facilitates greater experimentation, allowing you to create new MIDI transitions and generators – either based on existing ones, or your own creations.

MIDI editing improvements
Sort note selections by pitch, velocity, or duration. Stretch, split, chop, or connect notes in new ways; shape their velocity; transform them into scales; or add intervals by key or pitch.

Keys and scales
Set the scale of a selected clip in Live's control bar to see its notes in any clip you create. Then use the scale highlight as a guide to edit clips, use clip scale to transform and generate musical ideas, or sync the scale of MIDI devices and instruments to the playing clip. Any changes in Live will be reflected in Push, and vice versa.

Expansion Probability
Assign a single probability rule to a group of notes to play the entire group whenever the trigger is triggered. Or select a chord and tell Live to play a random note whenever the probability trigger is triggered.

Embrace and Explore Tuning
Follow your favorite tuning system or try different ones more easily. Work outside the 12-note equal temperament system and access tunings with Live's devices and any MPE-enabled plug-in.

Fusion
A two-note, MPE-enabled instrument designed for deep sound shaping, allowing you to create a wide range of textures and experimental tones with its two easy-to-use macro oscillators.

Granulator III
The latest iteration of Robert Henke's granular instrument now features MPE, giving you expressive control over parameters like note bending, vibrato, and glissando. Plus, you can now capture audio in real time and start manipulating it immediately.

Lion's Roar
Create everything from subtle and precise mastering-grade warmth to wild and unpredictable sonic degradation with Live's new coloration and saturation effects. Roar's three saturation stages can be connected in series, parallel, or even used in mid/side and multiband configurations—and it comes equipped with a feedback generator and an extensive modulation matrix.

New modulation behavior
The modulation destination is no longer taken over by the modulation source. This means that even after assigning an LFO or other modulation source, you can still adjust the parameter being modulated, opening up faster workflows, more performance possibilities, and continuous real-time control over parameters.

New Package
Lost and Found – A collection of sounds crafted from unusual materials, percussion trinkets, unique Foley recordings, and expressive objects to inject character and authenticity into your productions. Dig deep to create layers of decorative, expressive instruments, playful drum racks, and rich sound effects.

New Package
Performance Package- A set of innovative instruments from Iftah that push the boundaries of live performance. Capture snapshots of your set and deploy them later, control multiple parameters using layered macros and curves, extend your performance by looping in the arrangement view, and pre-arrange the structure of your performance before recording.

Detailed view of stack
View your device and clip editors, or automation and device parameters simultaneously – so you can work without the distraction of switching between views.

View the look
Live 12's cleaner, more minimalist look removes visual complexity and keeps the focus on the music.

Mixer in arrangement
Live's Mixer, previously only available in Session view, is now available in Arrangement view. Toggle it on or off using the Mixer view controls in the bottom right corner or via the View menu, and configure it independently of the Arrangement Mixer.

Blender improvements
Live's Mixer also features visual improvements, making it more accurate for making detailed mixing decisions, and easier to read and control.

Browser tagging and filtering searches
Search for your sounds in the browser without being restricted by Live's built-in categories. This means that when you search for bass sounds, you'll see all bass sounds in your Ableton library, whether samples or instrument presets.

Live 12's sound content is also tagged using a new system that can serve as a more flexible alternative or supplement to Collections in the sidebar. Sounds now come with logical tags, making them easier to find – but if you need more detail, or simply want to use your own tagging method, you can add your own.

In addition to Live 12's built-in tags, you can create your own custom categories in the sidebar to easily access all your favorite sounds and equipment in the way that best suits your workflow.

Sound Similarity Search
Start with a sample and tell Live's browser to find comparable sounds and instrument presets with the help of a neural network.
Or swap out all the samples in a drum rack with similar ones to quickly try out new percussion textures – like a drum machine with seemingly infinite kits.

Browser History
Retrace your steps to see and hear sounds or categories you've previously searched for: Live's browser now allows you to retrace your search history just like you would with a web browser.

Accessibility and navigation improvements
Control core workflows in Live 12 using assistive technologies like screen readers, and navigate to nearly every part of Live with new keyboard shortcuts.

New Theme
Choose new themes and tweak them with cool, neutral, or warm tones, or even high contrast mode.
