describe:Whether sculpting silky synths or crafting perfectly balanced vocals, making audio pop while simultaneously dominating those provocative frequencies is always a challenge. Certain areas often need soothing, especially if your audio sounds too harsh, boxy, or boomy. That's where DETROUBLER comes to the rescue, swooping in to smooth out your sound and address the most troublesome areas of audio processing.
Use this plugin as your guide to navigate the tricky path between great sound and tired ears. Those grinding frequency areas need to be eliminated, and now you have an all-in-one toolbox to fix your mix.
DETROUBLER doesn't just blindly stab frequencies. It draws from the science of psychoacoustics to pinpoint sonic stimuli that even the most discerning ears might miss. The plug-in uses techniques like Fletcher-Munson curves and bark scales to decipher the essence of auditory discomfort. But if you'd rather skip the theory, it's easy to smooth out a track's rough edges in a completely musical way using DETROUBLER's six unique target meters.
Listen and learn
The dedicated "Listen" button should be your first step on the journey, allowing you to clearly hear the aspects of your audio that need fixing. As you increase the Master Detrouble knob, you'll hear what the plug-in begins to capture in real time. Then turn off "Listen" mode to hear these changes in context.
Six paths to success
The glowing spheres surrounding the main Detrouble knob serve as clickable meters for each frequency region. Enable or disable processing for each region with a single click. The brighter the sphere, the more processing is applied. If a sphere shows minimal activity, your audio is already in good condition and the plug-in doesn't need to apply gain reduction.
Areas for improvement
There are six different areas that DETROUBLER focuses on. The plugin uses psychoacoustic principles to make changes, improving the sound of the bands and their corresponding masking frequencies based on the bark scale.
Booming: Excessive low-frequency resonance, typically in the 100-250 Hz range, that makes the sound overwhelming or lacks clarity.
Squareness: A hollow or resonant sound, usually due to excess around 250-500 Hz, that makes instruments (especially drums and vocals) sound like they are being played in a small box.
Muddy: Lack of clarity due to overlapping frequencies in the 200-500 Hz region, often resulting in instruments being mixed vaguely.
Honky: A nasal, resonant midrange quality, usually around 500-1500 Hz, that makes vocals or instruments sound brassy.
Harshness: Overly aggressive or penetrating mid- and high-frequency sounds, typically in the 2-6 kHz range, causing listener fatigue.
Hiss: Excessive, uncontrolled high-frequency energy in the 8-12 kHz range, which can sometimes make a speaker or vocal sound overly bright or artificial.
Visual feedback and comparison
DETROUBLER is built on vector graphics and features a resizable interface. A real-time spectrum is displayed on top to help you identify problem areas of the sound and show you exactly what's happening to the signal as it passes through the plug-in in real time. This allows for accurate monitoring at every step of the chain. For those who enjoy experimenting, use A/B comparison and copy/paste to compare different processing chains. Use the Undo/Redo buttons to revert any changes.
Preset
DETROUBLER includes a large collection of factory presets covering everything from subtle surgical corrections to more extensive brushstroke transformations. Use the provided parameters as a starting point to clean up any type of audio and bring out the best from your sounds and productions.
WA Productions is a creative plug-in for real-life producers, helping you achieve studio-quality processing quickly and easily. Enjoy!
What is the difference between Deres and Detroubler?
Dress
Deres is a resonance cleaning tool designed specifically for mid-range clarity. Removing the most dominant resonances in the midrange often results in a noticeable improvement in the clarity of a track or individual sound. It helps remove the most problematic resonances, leaving the mix clearer and more refined.
Iron remover
A Detroubler, on the other hand, is a completely different type of plug-in. Based on psychoacoustic research, it works by reducing frequencies scientifically determined to be problematic or fatiguing to human hearing. Unlike Deres, it doesn't clean resonances. Instead, it softens and smoothes problematic frequency areas that hide other details in the sound, making them easier on the human ear and, as a result, creating a clearer mix.
