Iconic PCM Reverb
PCM refers to Pulse Code Modulation, the technology introduced in the early 80s that would go on to become the primary method for processing digital audio. Over the years this technology would improve considerably, but in 1984 it was considered now what we would label Lo-fi, Grainy or Unrealistic. This was in stark contrast to the Plates and Springs of the 1960s which sounded Organic, Natural and Clean.

The original unit was limited in features and was often used as a send on a mixing console where EQ, Compression and other studio processing could be used to enhance it further. With Pulse, we've not only implemented custom DSP and tone shaping controls to bring this classic into the modern era, but we've done so in a way that makes it effortless and easy to dial in – whether you're a producer looking for professional results quickly, or a songwriter just getting started in engineering your own vocals…

The initial portion of a sound is often the loudest, this is called the transient. loud transients can cause Reverb to sound thin or weak because the sustain portion, or tail, of the sound is much quieter.
The initial part of a sound is usually the loudest and is called the transient. Loud transients can cause the reverb to sound thin or tinny because the sustain or tail of the sound is much quieter.

Pulse's Shape parameter solves this problem by intelligently lowering the transient volume to make the Reverb signal lusher, thicker and darker in tone, all without changing the original dry signal or needing unnecessary sends with additional processors like traditional reverbs.
Pulse’s Shape parameter addresses this issue by intelligently reducing the level of transients, making the reverb signal tonally richer, heavier, and darker—all without altering the original dry signal or requiring unnecessary sends through additional processors like with traditional reverbs.

A Legend Reimagined
Before the EMT 140 reverb was released in 1957, the only option for musicians and engineers to capture a realistic sense of space in their music was to record in a bigger room or use echo chambers.

By using an 8×4 foot sheet of metal in a solid wooden box engineers were able to recreate a sense of space in a brand new way that became known as Plate Reverb. This distinctly analogue process meant each and every plate reverb has its own sonic fingerprint.

Wave Alchemy Dawn

The heavenly sound of the world's first digital reverb, meticulously emulated and enhanced for modern music production.

The legendary EMT 250, manufactured in 1976, laid the foundation for reverb technology as we know it today.

Instantly add three-dimensionality to your music and navigate between tight drums, ethereal vocals, realistic acoustic spaces, lush halls, and beautiful synths.

Exploring the Dawn
Through dynamics, mid-side processing, and modulation, you can dial in the exact sound of the original 250, or take this iconic sound into new and uncharted territory. With Dawn, you can quickly recreate the 1976 reverb tone it emulates, or easily shape new sonic landscapes.

A new dawn for reverb
Released in 1976 for an impressive $20,000, the EMT 250 changed the face of music production forever – the digital age of reverb had arrived.

Sometimes nicknamed "R2D2" due to its futuristic, 70s-inspired sci-fi design, the EMT 250 is a heavy-duty, floor-standing device packed with impressive functionality, controlled via four oversized levers.

Compared to the mechanical plate reverbs it inherited, the 250's sound is clear and open, with wonderful three-dimensional depth and low noise.

To this day, Dawn is still considered by many to be the finest digital reverb ever made. With only 250 units produced, it faithfully captures the rich tones of this classic and takes it a step further with modern tone-shaping controls.

Magical sound effects
Recreate the magic of the iconic 250 reverb, instantly adding vivid space, clarity, and 3D depth to drums, synths, vocals, and guitars.

In addition to unique low-frequency decay and high-frequency decay (damping) controls, Dawn lets you use the full reverb time of the original device (from 0.4 to 4.5 seconds). The immersive "Space" mode features nearly infinite decay time, perfect for ethereal pads and synths.

Modern Control
Dawn goes far beyond the possibilities of the original device with an expanded set of powerful modern features that would typically require multiple plug-ins, complex routing, and a lot of time to set up.

Take the classic 250 sound to new heights with rich modulation, attenuation, mid/side EQ, gating, two-band stereo width, transient shaping, reverb character modes, and more…

Dawn uses a deliberate hybrid approach to DSP and convolution to achieve accurate sound quality and character.
We spent months modeling and analyzing every detail of the 250 until it was indistinguishable from our original unit. Beyond that, we added a switchable “Modern” mode that further enhances the original sound, giving the reverb tail more clarity and greater dynamic range.

Adjustment
Get creative with Dawn's powerful advanced pages.

Three unique character modes alter the nature of the reverb tail. Maintain the clarity of the reverb with Clean mode, add subtle warmth with Vintage mode, or enjoy tasteful sonic destruction with Sly mode – modeled after the iconic SP-1200 circuitry.

Further refine the reverb effect with the versatile 4-band Mid/Side EQ, shape the stereo image with the creative Width control, and create nostalgic ambiance with Dawn's advanced gate.

Shape and Dynamics
Shape your reverb and take your sound into new territory with tempo-synced pre-delay, low and high EQ, transient smoothing, ducking, and two styles of modulation.

Add extra sparkle and extended dynamics with Dawn's modern mode, or create vintage reverb tones with phase-coherent mono mode.
