First, we had a world class percussionist improvise in different styles on different percussion instruments. Then we ran the takes through a Tascam Porta 02 to give it some analog grit. Then when chopping, we designed, dialed back, or even accentuated the noise in certain places and accentuated it in others where it was aesthetically pleasing so you get the grit but it’s not overbearing.

The styles of percussion range anywhere from cinematic to Latin to Motown to experimental.

These samples were created with experimentation and cross pollination of music in mind. Throw a conga loop on a trap beat, put some hybrid percussion in your lofi or EDM track. The possibilities are limitless. Such is the beauty of percussion in music.

The texture and grit just add a little more vibe to any style from clean pop to grimey hip hop.
