Dorico Pro 5 is coming!

Whether you're writing your first song or composing the latest blockbuster, Dorico is the smart choice for composing and notating music. Steinberg has released Dorico 5, a new generation of composition and notation software, featuring a complete suite for iPad, macOS, and Windows. With intelligent, efficient new features, Dorico lets you spend less time in front of your computer and more time making music.

Dorico Pro 5.0.20 [Music software]

Dorico offers unique features designed to elevate virtual performances to a whole new level, leveraging deep support for expression mapping and key editors to fully leverage virtual instruments and sample libraries for detailed musical expression. Stage templates allow users to quickly move instruments around the stereo field, automatically placing them in regular positions on stage. While many sample libraries today are recorded live in specific concert halls, some are recorded using near-field microphones, requiring a professional mix to achieve balanced stereo positioning. Stage templates allow users to achieve this with just a few clicks.

Just as stage templates depict the physical placement of instruments on a virtual stage, space templates depict the space in which they are performed, whether it's a concert hall, recording studio, or church. Space templates let you quickly and easily fine-tune the sonic characteristics by quickly recalling convolution reverb presets. While convincing virtual performances often come from live recordings of music using a MIDI keyboard, this requires highly skilled keyboarding skills. The new Pitch Contour Emphasis feature emulates the dynamics of a human musician, providing subtle and realistic shaping of melodic phrases to bring your music to life.

Other performance-focused improvements in Dorico 5 include Groove Agent SE and a new MIDI-triggered period feature for quickly building realistic rhythms. Expression mapping provides the mapping of written notes to the MIDI controllers and key switches needed to trigger the corresponding sounds in your sample library, including delay functionality for each switch. The new Scrub Playback feature allows you to quickly listen to all instruments at a specific point in the music, and scrub forward and backward, providing an invaluable way to check harmony and find errant notes.

Features:

  • Room and Stage Templates: Use a simple visual interface to move instruments around the virtual stage, and Dorico will automatically transform their pan and reverb settings. Experiment with different room reverbs and quickly recall any previous state by creating mixer snapshots. Reorder and rename outputs, create send busses, and more.
  • Pitch Contour Emphasis: Dorico's performances are more expressive than ever before, using sophisticated algorithms to breathe life into phrases, just like a human musician. You no longer need exceptional keyboard skills to bring your scores to life.
  • Groove Agent SE: The entry-level version of Steinberg's creative drum software is now included with Dorico 5. Groove Agent SE not only serves as a high-quality drum performance device for Dorico projects, but also includes over 400 MIDI drum patterns performed by top studio drummers and mixed by Steinberg's professional engineers.
  • MIDI Trigger Duration: New MIDI triggers play notes or chords at the duration you specify that don't appear in the score. This is particularly useful for triggering MIDI patterns in plug-ins like Groove Agent SE or other pattern-based instruments like TGuitar.
  • Scrub Playback: This makes it easier to audition the entire ensemble or a single instrument at any point, and play it forward or backward at any speed.
  • Instrument Editor: With Dorico Pro 5, you can modify or create instrument definitions to suit your needs and quickly reuse them in future projects.
  • New Music Fonts: Four new handwriting-style fonts and four fine fonts, available with the click of a button, bring more variety to the look of your projects.
  • Multiple Project Creation: Dorico 5 completely revamps project creation from the very beginning; you can now create multiple projects on multiple instruments simultaneously, or even create multiple projects in different positions on each instrument.
  • Real-time editing: You can drag selected notes to change their pitch, or drag them to new rhythmic positions, with a real-time overlay showing where the notes will move to.
  • MusicXML import and export: Dorico 5 provides rich support for importing harmonies, articulations, ornaments, sutabilises, and pauses. Export has also been improved to include page layout information and low-level support for encoding information about the music and text fonts used in the project.
  • Other new features include: improvements to the details of chord symbols and guitar chord diagrams, expanded functionality of Expression View, improved support for Japanese lyrics, greater scripting capabilities, text improvements, and more.

Dorico 4.2.0 introduces a lot of new and great features to the entire app. Let’s talk about the key ones first:

  • Improvements to indentation: You can now control Dorico's indentation behavior anywhere in any flow by adjusting the notation options, or manually specifying the indentation behavior for any specific indentation group.
  • MIDI Dynamics Curves: A new MIDI Dynamics Curves bar in Play mode allows you to adjust the MIDI dynamics expression of every VST instrument in your score, and Dorico now automatically analyzes and incorporates dynamics and spurts during playback.
  • Bracket Noteheads: You can now easily enclose any notehead (even a single notehead or an entire chord, even square brackets or round brackets), and the brackets will automatically avoid musical characteristics such as time value rhythm points, accidentals, flats and sharps, and fermata.
  • Various line drawing support (whether vertical, horizontal, or bound to notes): A new line drawing panel is built into the writing mode, allowing you to "draw vertical curves to circle notes in chords", "draw lines bound to notes across two different rhythmic points", and "draw horizontal lines for the entire music clip" in dozens of different styles.
  • Violin Harmonic Playback: Dorico now supports accurate notation and playback of violin harmonics (regardless of your notational style, and whether you use natural or artificial harmonics). If your instrument supports dedicated violin harmonics, Dorico will automatically switch to use them.

Dorico Pro 5.0.20 [Music software]

Dorico Pro 4 also brings at least the following new features:

  • The function of combining the separate performances of the group musicians into a single staff on the full score is the automated "Condensing" function.
  • Guitar tabs, guitar bends, pre-bends, guitar chord diagrams, guitar chord instructions.
  • Intelligent harp pedal marking processing.
  • Customizable playback templates.
  • New MIDI parameters can be edited in MIDI Edit Mode: Pitch Bend and Velocity.
  • Grouping function of playing techniques.
  • Typographic support for overtones.
  • Edit single lines of lyrics at a time as paragraphs within a single multi-line text pane.
  • Enter the same note content segment simultaneously in multiple consecutive staves.
  • You can decide whether to split the chord notes into different staffs or input all the chord notes in full on each staff when entering chords.
  • The editing experience for the entire project and each movement's metadata (including items such as track titles and participants) has been significantly improved, and multiple metadata entries can be edited in batches.
  • You can use the keyboard to select the elements of the music chart and switch between the same types of content. (You can use this function to select a rehearsal marker, and then use the left and right keys on the keyboard to switch the current screen between the positions of multiple rehearsal markers, greatly increasing editing efficiency.)
  • You can extend a note to the end of the selected rest by selecting a note and following it with a single or multiple rests of any length. You can also have a note automatically extend to the next note's starting position, filling the rest.
  • Tokens can now be entered directly into the text box via the context menu (previously, you had to memorize the tokens and enter them manually).
  • You can input any Unicode characters through commands, and they will be displayed as long as the font you are currently using supports them.
  • You can enter accidentals (flats and sharps) in the text of a musical score by using the commands "{@flat@}" and "{@sharp@}".
  • When editing text, you can use keyboard hotkeys to control the bold/italic/underline format of the selected text.
  • You can clear all fingering markings in the selected music content at once.
  • It allows users to batch specify alternative fonts when the current system lacks the font file used by the current score.
  • The redesigned dark mode + sculpted and refurbished application interface art design make it easier to focus on editing.
