In this journey we embark on a discovery of instrumental musical traditions of the Ashkenazi Jews of Central and Eastern Europe, also known as ‘Klezmer’ (from Hebrew – kĕlēy zemer, meaning musical instruments).

 

The essential elements of the tradition include dance, ritual melodies, and virtuosic improvisations. Klezmer is instrumental music for celebrations, performed in the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe at weddings or joyous religious celebrations.
