Inspired by the shimmering haze of the timeless tones that propelled the synth-fueled revolution of the ’80s but reimagined with today’s technology, this EKX for EZkeys 2 presents a sonic retrospective with an all-new perspective. If you’re looking for sounds evidently rooted in nostalgic charm but with modern depth and clarity, this is the go-to expansion for EZkeys 2.

The main underlying instrument in this EKX was inspired by one of the most iconic synths of the ’80s. From that, numerous patches were modeled to create the best possible range. To further shape each sound, additional sampled hardware synths and effects were then layered, blended and refined to create fresh, one-of-a-kind textures of warm and analog-inspired tones ideal for any type of modern pop production. In total, a staggering 80 presets are included, all of which are conveniently organized in four distinct categories: Keys, Lead & Bass, Plucks & Bells as well as Pads. Combined, this will give you a palette of sound that covers anything from characteristically crisp and glassy piano-like tones to driven leads, punchy basses and warm analog pads – all with an apparent nod to the past but with an up-to-date twist. As always, each preset includes its own control hub in which you can easily tweak the underlying parameters to perfectly suit your mix.

In addition to the sounds, a MIDI library unique to this product is included. For ease of use, each section in every song is categorized using the same terminology as the presets, giving you a perfect source for auditioning sounds with MIDI tailored to fit.

This is an expansion where some of the most familiar sounds of the past are reinvented in unfamiliar new costumes. If your songs call for synths that have a vintage vibe yet are completely in tune with the future, this one’s for you.

THE CONTROLS.

In addition to a Time + Space control hub that lets you affect the overall delay and reverb saturation, each preset in this EKX has its own unique parameters attached to it. With these, you can easily tweak the main sound-shaping components and overall tone of every sound. Depending on the preset, these may include anything from low- and high-pass filters as well as bitcrush effects, chorus, vibrato, pitch, envelope, flanger and more. Some presets even offer control of layered-in textures of synths.

This EKX includes its own basic collection of MIDI. It was tailored specifically for the instrument and designed to give you a starting point of material to work from and be inspired by when exploring the sonic possibilities of the product.
