Traveling to Nagoya to produce two packs uniting members of the city’s underground music community, Rubicon aimed to shine a light on a tight-knit scene with a refreshing take on experimental electronic music. Melodic Leftfield Bass compiles contributions from Abentis and Methodd, whose work approaches polyrhythmic bass music with lush sound design and sprawling arpeggiation, inspired by the likes of Haruomi Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Looking to the future while celebrating the past and present, Japan Editions: Melodic Leftfield Bass offers a glimpse into one of the myriad contemporary sounds of Japan with an accompanying mini-documentary.
