It was only natural for the Steinway B – one of the most recorded pianos in history – to serve as the foundation for the largest piano library we have ever created. Its expressive, rich and realistic character, in combination with the depth of sampling we allowed ourselves this time, translate directly into versatility of use. Look under the hood with us, and see for yourselves what close to 26 000 individual samples are capable of!

 

Velvet Grand was recorded in Sofia Session Studio A with multiple microphones which later we summed up to 5 microphone positions – Close, Tube, Ribbon, Decca, Hall. The different combinations of those microphones can really change the character and sound of the piano, especially the different combinations between the Close, Tube and Ribbon mics, all of which were within close distance to the actual grand piano. In order to achieve a high level of detail, we’ve sampled the piano in 7 dynamics, all of them with 5 round robins. The same way we have also sampled the sound of the sustain pedal.
