‘Hybrid Downtempo’ blends acoustic and electronic elements with experimental processing techniques, combining them to create both an organic and ethereal set of samples. Featuring a ’50s Bentley upright piano mangled and processed through reverbs, delays and granular effects to create otherworldly soundscapes still rooted in a physical space. This was paired with the raw, brassy sound of a Prophet Rev 2 analogue synthesiser, used to create evolving and organic pads and meandering synth lines as well as a Moog Subsequent 25 which provided deep analogue bass.

 

You also get an assortment of bowed, picked and bowed string recordings, courtesy of a well-loved student violin which proved a woody and close tone, a thinline fender telecaster guitar and a Tanglewood acoustic.

 

All of this coupled with analogue drums from the Elektron Analogue RYTM, mixed with layers of gently shifting foley creates powerful and evocative rhythms to pair with the melodic content.
