Ridgewalk Explore sound like never before. Traverse microscopic moments within samples to create infinite soundscapes, or stretch/compress audio in real time while recording and responding instantly to new input.
Ridgewalk is a Particle engine and circulator two-in-one It generates its output through a set of independent micro-loopers that travel within the same audio buffer. You can freely record into the buffer, overdub, and even roll back to previous versions, and the micro-loopers will transition smoothly and instantly between different recording states. You can control the size, behavior, and how the micro-loopers move through the buffer over time, allowing for unprecedented sonic creativity and interpretation - and all Real-time operation.
As a modular tool, Ridgewalk offers immense flexibility. It can be the core of your production, working alongside you during performance, or it can be the finishing touch during mixing, providing unique atmosphere and enriching your sound. It is fully compatible with Ableton CV or Bitwig LFO Modulators such as DAC and DAC further expand creative possibilities.
Features provided by Ridgewalk include:
- recording: Record in two unique ways: automatic input level detection or traditional lock recording (allows unlimited recording). Buffer up to 60 seconds or 16 measures.
- Overdubbing: Two overdubs are available: traditional feedback overdubbing and sidechain overdubbing (where the new input compresses the original audio). Playback automatically and smoothly transitions to the latest recording.
- Layer management: Each overdub creates a new layer, allowing you to smoothly switch between or scroll back and forth between layers.
- Complete Memories: All recorded data will be saved and automatically loaded when the project is reopened.
- Sample import: In addition to recordings, you can also import samples directly.
- Volume Control: Dry and wet volume are controlled independently.
- Playback Controls: Loop playback can be started/paused independently of recording and input, and any recording changes are reflected immediately.
- Hold time: The looper playback can be set to automatically pause time to simulate special reverb or delay effects.
- Play in reverse: Supports reverse operation of playback and recording.
- Loop Length: The looper can scale from tiny snippets to the entire buffer and is synchronized to the BPM.
- Number of cycles: Up to 7 Microcirculators can be activated and they will move in unison.
- Drift: The size and position of the circulators can be randomly desynchronized, creating variation and uncertainty.
- Blur: One-touch ambiance enhancement tools: control crossfades and introduce reverb.
- Repitch: Playback pitch can be adjusted by ±2 octaves.
- Wander: The circulator can randomly walk through the sample via Brownian motion.
- Linear movement: The looper position can be linearly through the samples, in time or synchronized to the BPM.
- Manual positioning: The loop position can be manually set by click or touch, making Ridgewalk a real-time instrument.
- Instant Play: Start playback instantly from freshly recorded audio, turning granular looping algorithms into real-time effects.
- Host synchronization: It can be synchronized with the playback/recording of the DAW and automatically started or stopped.
Recommended usage:
- As a track effect: Insert Ridgewalk on an audio track, turn up the dry volume to maximum, pass the original sound directly, and adjust the wet volume to get the ideal effect.
- As a send effect: Insert it on a return track with the dry volume set to 0 and the wet volume maxed out. Send multiple tracks to Ridgewalk to get ambient pads that are correlated to all the incoming audio.
